A million millionaires – this is how I did it!

I am saddened by the death of an Australian member of the profession, who passed on while at work. She was discovered in the early hours of the morning, at work, after her passing – I don’t know anything about the state of mind that led to her death – but at such a relatively young age, I’d say she deserved to have more and better life experiences, outside of work. While at work, she had targets that she needed to meet. She needed to get to a place – a WHERE! But she was struggling with the HOW.

I do quality reviews for one of the big auditors – where, as a quality reviewer, the file cannot be signed off by the lead auditor without my approval. At the stage of signing off, I am put under tremendous pressure because if I don’t accept what has been done, there are some serious implications for the engagement team – the pressure that I feel is quite high but I think the team is also under even more pressure than I am. While I am not involved in the detailed tasks, my role is to accept the reasonability of the work done.

Many of us have dreams of achieving certain targets, but when it comes to actually doing the activities, we realize that we underestimated the steps needed to get to the where. But we still want to take all the steps, by ourselves, without aid – this is one of the biggest stumbling blocks in getting to the where.

Conflict between the where and the how is one of the most underestimated events. The dichotomy of the two is mostly confused as one – we create plans that tell us where we are going, we even plan the activities that we will engage in, but we don’t realize that the two require two different mindsets – to achieve is not the same as to do! The two require different skill sets, and probably different people.

I am delighted that in the next few days or weeks I will be starting the online business feedback series. I know where it needs to get and I must admit that I was getting stuck on the how for a very long time, but I have now decided to loosen up and let the audience decide how everything will pan out. The most important thing is the intention that I have, which is to create a million millionaires – how it actually comes to reality is none of my business, but my duty is to accept and enjoy the ride.

So, brace yourself for an exciting journey. I believe I have set my intentions right and at only R199 or just USD 10 per month the co-creation that is to come will go beyond my imagined WHERE. What is your million-millionaire idea? Are you stuck on the HOW? You are not alone. See you on the other side.
