The comfort of the hat

A hat is a useful accessory. Some see it is a luxury, while it is a necessity for others. Hats also serve different purposes – protection, fashion, cultural significance, etc. The important thing to acknowledge is that hats always send through a certain message from the person wearing it to other people.

Whether you like it or not, you are always compelled to wear different hats and it is important to acknowledge that fact. It is not necessary a physical hat, but more of a psychological hat – role playing at home, work, with friends, etc. The list is endless and it also gets more spread within one area – for example, at work you may be required to wear many different hats depending on whom you are dealing with. One of the challenges of wearing different hats is that overwhelm can slowly creep in and before you know it, you begin to dread certain activities that you once thought you were passionate about. SOS!

If you don’t ask for help, you may suddenly see yourself creating new habits to deal with the overwhelm – which might not necessarily be good for you. Most of the time the challenge comes through trying to be 100% focused, at the same time, on each of the different hats you are wearing and not realising that each requires its own time and attention. You might end up getting paralysed, not in a physical sense, but more from feeling stuck and not executing the tasks that you set yourself to accomplish.

The best place to start would be to source a coach who will help you wear the right hat for you at the right time. You may need to throw away some hats and may also have to bring in some hats that you thought you would never wear. You also have the option to not wear hats that you feel are not a good fit for you at that time, and you also have the power to reconsider what you once rejected.

Flexibility is the name of the game.

No one truly knows what hat they should be wearing at any point in time. Everyone goes, rightfully so, with how they feel at that point in time. But it is also great to get others to ask you whether your choice of hat is really great for you…without feeling violated – you should look out for people who ask you progressive instead of doubtful questions. Progressive will be loaded with empowering scenarios and have the power to stimulate your imagination.
