Over most of my career, I have been involved in training, developing and coaching clients and staff, both at individual and organisational levels.
One of the most fulfilling achievements is to see growth in the recipient. Although I have seen some permanent successes over the years, I have also come to realise that being coached should be, but, is not for every business or every individual.
Some businesses and individuals have the ability to be accountable to themselves and can achieve their goals with ease, before moving on to crush the next one without the need of a coach. But on the flipside, most lose track of their goals and direction in which they are heading as they do not really take their goals seriously – and do need some handholding – especially in this information age.
The biggest cost for not being accountable to your targets and goals is NOT MONEY! It is LOST TIME, which can never be recovered.
While money is very important, it has its threshold where businesses and individuals forget why they are doing what they are doing. “Why am I here?” is one of the problem questions which people often forget ask themselves or if they ask themselves, they answer at an unfulfilling surface level.
Those who choose to be coached need to be serious and committed to achieving more compared to the same timeframe that they currently take to achieve their goals. Their priorities need to lie in achieving as opposed to doing.
They need to be committed to understanding their value systems, which everyone has, whether they like it or not. Most people and organisations unconsciously function outside their value systems and wonder why they don’t achieve their goals and targets.
Tasks and activities are easier executed when performed in line with value systems.
Handholding through a coach who keeps you accountable to your (self-) defined value systems is one of the fastest ways you can achieve more in less time even if you don’t truly believe in being coached, or even if you think you have achieved it all and feel truly aligned with everything you do and are confident that you are a high achiever.
The only problem that you might have as a high achiever is that you may be suffering from exhaustion, from some blind spots which a coach can help you unpack.
If you are interested in clawing your time and energy back, then being coached is highly likely to be for you.
